Dark Mofo Motorhome Adventure 2017


Dark Mofo 2017 is set the be the biggest yet with over $1 million worth of tickets being purchased in the first day of sales. This inaugural cultural event is an experience not to be missed and the best way to see it is by motorhome! Kicking off on Thursday the 8th of June this 14 day event is sure to offer something for everyone’s tastes - with local produce being showcased, along with artwork, music and every aspect of Tasmania’s vibrant culture. Travelling by motorhome is the best way to ensure you don’t miss out on anything Tasmania has to offer, with your transport and accommodation all rolled into one.

Day 1


Arrive at peaceful Hobart Airport and head straight to the Cruisin' Depot to collect your motorhome. Make the 50 minute drive down to the Tasman Peninsula for the day, stopping in Sorell to grab your groceries. On the Peninsula you can check out the historic convict settlement Port Arthur, or sightsee around the Peninsula; checking out the Tasman Arch and the Tessellated Pavement. Camp in one of the beautiful tourist parks or spend the night off the grid and get back to nature in the Tasman National Park.

 

Day 2

Get up early to see an incredible Tasmanian morning, enjoy a hot coffee sitting outside watching the teeming wildlife; you might even get to feed some wallabies. After breakfast make your way up the East Coast to Bicheno, stopping in the quiet town of Swansea for some lunch and a shop. Once in Bicheno check out the incredible Bicheno Blowhole, or if wildlife is more your thing head to a local wildlife parks to experience some of Tasmania’s creatures. A short trip down to wineglass bay is also definitely worthwhile, with one of the most spectacular views in the world of Tasmania’s pristine waters. Stay in Bicheno the night, or at the nearby Freycinet National Park - don’t forget to tuck in to some famous fresh Tasmanian seafood for dinner.

Day 3


Head back to Hobart today, taking a detour through Richmond to see the convict built Richmond Bridge, which is the oldest bridge still being used in Australia today. Once in Hobart park in Queens Domain and stroll in to the CBD for some shopping. Experience the relaxed atmosphere of Hobart’s main shopping district and enjoy a coffee at one of many local cafes. In the evening immerse yourself in the Dark Mofo winter culture and see Hobart come to life. 

 

Day 4


Drive or catch the ferry to Tasmania’s world class Museum of Old and New Art. Make sure you leave at least a few hours to spend here otherwise you won’t even scratch the surface of what MONA has to offer.  After MONA head back down to the Salamanca waterfront for dinner and to catch some more Dark Mofo festivities.

 

Day 5


Today is the day to sight see around Hobart - head up the beautiful mountain Mt Wellington/kunanyi for some spectacular views. Take a hike around one of the many tracks; there’s a track for everyone’s experience level! After the mountain go for a drive through scenic Taroona, stopping to see if you’re brave enough to make it up the 19th Century Shot Tower! Stay close by the city tonight or head down to the Huon Valley for a tranquil evening.

 

Day 6


Learn about the Huon Valley’s apple filled history at the renowned Willie Smith’s Cider House, sampling some of the best food and drink Tasmania has to offer. If you’re after an adrenaline rush jump on a Huon Valley Jet Boat ride for a thrilling way to experience the valley! Head back the city for your last night of 2017’s Mofo Madness!

 

Day 7 

Make sure you grab a big breakfast made from Tasmanian produce at one of Tasmania’s many cafe’s and eateries in the morning. Head back to the depot - stopping at Eastlands shopping centre to pick up some last-minute souvenirs and to take some last minute Instagram photos with your motorhome.
