Dark
Mofo is once again just around the corner and this year we are offering

you the opportunity to make the most of this world class winter
festival.  Whether you’re looking for an action-packed weekend getaway
or simply somewhere comfortable and convenient to sleep; we have just
the answer for you. Since its inaugural year in 2013, Dark Mofo run by
the eccentric and world famous Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) has
taken the world by storm. From the 12th to 22nd of June 2014, this unique event will literally light up the Tasmanian winter
like never before with an unforgettable light show and a string of
enchanting events and art exhibits. And, what better way to experience
this extravaganza than in the comfort of one of our motorhomes or campervans? Collect the motorhome of your choice from our Cruisin’ Hobart depot and make a beeline to Treasure Island Caravan Park Berridale
just a hop, skip and a jump from Mona itself. Set up your motorhome and
catch the iconic Mona ferry into the Hobart wharf to experience all the
festival highlights. It’s that easy! While you’re in the city on your
Dark Mofo escape, make the most of Hobart’s other stellar tourist
attractions including iconic Salamanca Market run every Saturday and
specialising in local arts and crafts and fresh produce.  Wander around
Battery Point with its charming narrow streets, historic homesteads and
bustling cafes or experience magnificent sweeping views from the top of
Mount Wellington. Don’t miss a visit to the world class exhibitions of
Mona, just a five minute walk from your accommodation at Treasure Island Caravan Park Berridale
or enjoy a scenic Sunday afternoon drive in the Huon Valley offering a
variety of boutique wineries, rustic apple sheds and row after row of
picturesque apple trees.
2014 Dark Mofo will see a range of top-notch events and art shows
coming to town. Launceston-based artist Amelia Rowe will transform Rosy
Barn into a walk-in memento miro by bringing taxidermy and personal
narrative together whilst Brisbane-based artist Ross Manning will take
you to Hobart’s subterranean with Different Rhythms, a selection of awe-inspiring light installations. The show-stealer of this year is predicted to be Rafael Lozano Hemmer’s, Articulated Intersect; a once in a lifetime interactive light show that will rival last year’s Spectra. Articulated Intersect
will give you the chance to control 18 powerful lights cutting into the
Hobart sky above Sullivans Cove in the heart of the city. Six
mechanical levers will be set around the waterfront precinct and as you
move a lever; three robotic searchlights create a compound beam high in
the night sky. As the beams shoot across the sky they resist your
control and pulsate autonomously in the darkness. The art installation
was originally designed to work with the USA-Mexico border in mind and
is touted to take Dark Mofo to the next level. Articulated Intersect will be unveiled at dusk on Friday June the 13th.
We highly recommend making your way down the waterfront before
wandering over to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery for an evening of
art.
