7-Day Motorhome Itinerary from Melbourne: Mornington & Phillip Island

ITINERARY

Day 1
Melbourne to Frankston
Distance : 75.7 Kms Time : 1 Hour 40 Minutes

Morning: Pick up your motorhome and take a few moments to get settled. Browse a few local shops or supermarkets and grab supplies for the road! Then drive to Brighton Beach to admire the colourful Bathing Boxes. Grab a coffee and enjoy walk along the beach.

Afternoon: Continue your journey south following the bay, stopping at beautiful beaches like Chelsea Beach, Frankston Beach or Canadian Bay Beach. Arrive at Mornington and stretch your legs along the foreshore or at Mills Beach.

Evening: Enjoy a relaxed first night at your campsite, cooking a nice meal thanks to your motorhome’s fully equipped kitchen. Unwind in the cosy living area, watch a movie or tell stories by a campfire (always regulations before lighting a fire).

Day 1

Day 2
Frankston to Sorrento
Distance : 68.5 Kms Time : 1 Hour 10 Minutes

Morning: Cook up breakfast in your motorhome or using one of the BBQs available in the caravan park! Bacon and eggs on toast are always a great way to start the day. Make your way south and spend a few hours at the Peninsula Hot Springs, perfect to get into that relaxed mood.

Afternoon: Grab a quick lunch in a local café or make up some wrap to eat on the go. Drive towards Portsea, stopping at Diamond Bay and London Bridge Lookout for coastal views and short walks. The scenery here is one of the best of the Peninsula!

Evening: Slowly make your way to your caravan park in Sorrento. Check in and walk to The Baths Sorrento to have dinner (only a 13-minute walk), overlooking the beautiful bay. Head back to your motorhome for a comfortable night with everything you need on board.

Day 3
Sorrento & Portsea
Distance : 12 Kms Time : 18 Minutes

Morning: After cooking breakfast or grabbing something at The Sisters Sorrento, make your way back to Portsea, to visit the Point Nepean National Park. Discover historic forts and walking trails with beautiful coastal views.

Afternoon: When you’re done exploring the park, make your way back to Sorrento, stopping at the Millionaire’s Walk (if you still feel like walking… otherwise you can get back to the campsite and go to the beach!).

Evening: Enjoy a slow evening, cook up a nice dinner and relax for the day. Make the most of the comfort and convenience of having your accommodation right by the beach.

Tip: There is a parking lot at the entrance of the National Park. Leave your motorhome there and enjoy exploring the park by foot! It’s about 1h15 (5km) to the very end, where the Fort Nepean is.

Day 4
Sorrento to Corinella
Distance : 151 Kms Time : 2 Hours 25 Minutes

Morning: Leave Sorrento and stop at Dragon’s Head in Blairgowrie for ocean views before continuing to Cape Schanck Lighthouse for a coastal walk and rugged scenery.

Afternoon: Drive across the peninsula toward Western Port Bay and arrive in the quiet seaside town of Corinella. Take a gentle walk along the foreshore or jetty and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Evening: Relax for the night in Corinella and enjoy a simple dinner in your motorhome, making the most of your onboard kitchen and cosy living space. The calm setting is perfect for a slower evening.

Day 4

Day 5
Corinella to Cowes, Phillip Island
Distance : 52.5 Kms Time : 1 Hour

Morning: After enjoying a homemade breakfast, depart Corinella towards Phillip Island. Cross the San Remo Bridge to reach the island, then stop at the Chocolate Factory. Make sure you grab some treats for later… Drive to Cape Woolamai to the Pinnacles Lookout for stunning dramatic rock formations.

Afternoon: Enjoy a lunch in your motorhome or at the lookout, then head to Cowes, stopping at A Maze’N Things for a family-friendly fun rest of the day. If time allows, enjoy a visit to the Koala Conservation Reserve.

Evening: Enjoy a quiet night on the island with dinner in your motorhome or a sunset stroll along the beach, making the most of your comfortable home on wheels.

Phillip Island

Morning: Enjoy a slow morning with a delicious breakfast cooked in your motorhome, then head to Red Rocks Beach for a relaxing morning. Take some board games, a good book or just enjoy your family’s company.

Afternoon: Head to The Nobbies Boardwalk for seal views and rugged coastline. Home to spectacular clifftop boardwalks, explosive blowholes, iconic penguins, seabirds and even whales passing in winter, Nobbies Rock contains Australia’s largest fur seal colony!

Evening: Drive along the coast back to Summerlands, stopping at viewpoints like Southpoint, South Coast and Summerlands Lookouts.  Have dinner at Shearwater Restaurant & Café for fish & chips or chicken schnitzel, then make your way to the famous Penguin Parade for an unforgettable experience at sunset.

Morning: To make the most of your last day, hit the road early towards Melbourne. Visit the Melbourne Zoo before returning your motorhome to the Melbourne branch. It’s a great final stop, especially for families.

Afternoon: If time allows, enjoy the Butterfly House or the Japanese Garden in the same area. Be sure to drop your vehicle before 3:30 pm.
