This 10-day Cairns loop combines some of the region’s best producers with spectacular rainforest, beaches and country landscapes. ITINERARY
Day 1
Cairns
Distance : Flexible

Morning: Pick up your motorhome from the Cruisin’ Cairns branch just 5 minutes from Cairns Airport and get familiar with your home on wheels. Make your first stop at Rusty’s Market to discover the wide variety of fresh local produce and fill up your motorhome fridge (and bellies).
Afternoon: Visit Sushi Momiji for generous sashimi bowls and sushi rolls packed with local seafood. Head to the Cairns Esplanade and waterfront for a midday splash, then walk around town to immerse yourself in the tropical lifestyle.
Evening: Hit up Prawn Star at the Marlin Marina for the freshest seafood right on the boat, then trawl the Cairns Night Markets for some retail therapy and a late-night snack at the food court.

Day 2
Palm Cove + Port Douglas
Distance : 70 Kms
Time : 1 Hour 20 Minutes
Morning: Have breakfast at White Whale Coffee Roasters or Caffiend, or start driving to Palm Cove and have a cuppa by Palm Cove Beach with a view of the Coral Sea. Make sure to stop by the Palm Cove Markets (check schedule here) for more local delicacies and products.
Afternoon: Enjoy the coastal Great Barrier Reef Drive as you head to Port Douglas. Settle at the campsite and head to TheAustralian Chocolate Farm for a cocoa farm tour and tastings. Make a pit stop at the Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery for fruit wine tastings and get a glimpse into the winemaking process. Get your designated driver ready!
Evening: Treat yourself to a seafood dinner at Wrasse & Roe, or feast on a seafood platter from Port Seafood under the stars at Four Mile Beach.

Day 3
Daintree
Distance : 55 Kms
Time : 50 Minutes
Morning: Spend the morning at the Port Douglas Markets (check schedule here), or pop into any of the surrounding cafes on Macrossan Street. Get some oysters for the road from the Get ShuckedOyster Vending Machine at the Port Village Shopping Centre before heading up north!
Afternoon: Stop by Scomazzon’s Farm Store to pick up more local and exotic produce before making your way to Hook-A-Barra at Daintree Saltwater Barramundi Farm for a farm tour and barramundi fishing experience. Bring back your catch or buy some barra fillets for dinner tonight!
Evening: Cook a locally inspired dinner in the motorhome using the tropical produce and fresh seafood and savour it by the sea at Wonga Beach.

Day 4
Cape Tribulation
Distance : 50 Kms
Time : 1 Hour 20 Minutes
Includes a ferry to cross the Daintree River – learn more here. Do not continue north onto the Bloomfield Track as it is unsuitable for our 2WD motorhomes.)
Morning: Stop by for more fruit from the Daintree Gateway Fruit Stall and cross the Daintree River to go to the Daintree Discovery Centre. Head 10 minutes up the road to the Daintree Ice Cream Company for an orchard tour and ice cream made using their harvest. Who says you can’t have ice cream for breakfast?
Afternoon: Head next door to the Daintree Fan Palm Farm for a bite before continuing to Cape Trib Farm. Its orchard grows over 70 rare and exotic fruits, with guided tastings introducing visitors to seasonal fruits.
Evening: Cook dinner in the motorhome and listen to sounds of the Daintree Rainforest after dark, or have dinner by the beach at Thornton’s accompanied by the crashing waves. Have a relaxed evening as it will be a long drive down to Mareeba tomorrow.

Day 5
Mareeba
Distance : 140 Kms
Time : 2 Hours 30 Minutes
Morning: Before leaving the lush rainforest, stop at the Daintree Tea Company road stall to pick up some locally grown black tea. Make a scenic pit stop at the Mossman Gorge for a swim in pristine, croc-free waters. Visit Golden Drop Winery to pick up some mango wines in their sprawling mango plantation!
Afternoon: Continue south towards Skybury Café & Roastery, where Australia’s oldest coffee plantation sits alongside papayas and bananas, all grown on the same farm. Sample their coffees and experiment with exotic fruit-flavoured brews.
Evening: Pick up some goodies for the evening and get an açaí bowl at Harvest Lane. Cook dinner in the motorhome and enjoy a slow night before heading into Tablelands territory tomorrow. Catch a movie at the drive-in theatre at Mareeba Drive-In if there are movies on!

Day 6
Atherton Tablelands
Distance : 33 Kms
Time : 30 Minutes
Morning: Have an early brekkie with house-roasted coffee at Coffee Works and make your way to Mt Uncle Distillery and wander the grounds while meeting some friendly farm animals, tasting your way through locally made gin, rum, whisky and agave spirits. Call upon your trusty deso driver again!
Afternoon: Drop by The Humpy to stock up on farm-fresh fruit and veg, local nuts, jams and plenty of road-trip snacks and souvenirs. Arrive in Atherton and try out a geode cracking experience at The Crystal Caves.
Evening: Turn today’s haul into a grazing board and have an evening meal at the Platypus Park, spotting some local wildlife and the elusive platypus.

Day 7
Atherton Tablelands

Morning: Get an early start at Shaylee Strawberries, with seasonal pick-your-own-strawberry sessions and homemade strawberry treats galore. Once you’re all strawberried out, go for a leisurely walk in the Curtain Fig National Park surrounded by massive ancient fig trees.
Afternoon: Hide from the arvo heat at Gallo Dairyland for handcrafted cheese, chocolate and even more ice-cream! Then, head to Lake Barrine Teahouse for a classic Devonshire tea overlooking the crater lake.
Evening: Head to Yungaburra for a slow evening and explore Peterson Creek, spotting a platypus or two. Visit any of the restaurants on Main Street in Atherton for a filling dinner after all that walking or cook up a storm in your motorhomewith local produce.

Day 8
Mission Beach
Distance : 150 Kms
Time : 2 Hours
Morning: Travel south through the rolling green countryside towards Millaa Millaa and stop at Mungalli Creek Dairy. Grab some warm scones and cheesecakes made with their biodynamic dairy products and sample their homemade ice cream and chocolates, all making a very convincing case for a second breakfast.
Afternoon: Stretch your legs at Mission Beach with a walk along the beachfront. Have some fish tacos or a good ol’ fish and chip from The Chippy No. 1, and head on a tour with Fruit Forest Farm and explore a working exotic farm from the comfort of a tractor trailer.
Evening: Feast on a seafood platter at Mission Beach Tavern or Charlie’s Beach House, or put together a tropical dinner using the cheese, fruit and other goodies and have a picnic at the Clump Point Lookout.

Day 9
Cassowary Coast
Distance : 52 Kms
Time : 50 Minutes
Morning: Start with Charley’s Chocolate just outside Mission Beach. Follow the journey from cocoa tree to chocolate bar, see the working plantation and factory, and finish with the important part: chocolate tastings.
Afternoon: Have lunch at the El Arish Tavern and try the smoked whole croc if you’re up for it (pre-book 1 week before!). Continue north to Murdering Point Winery to indulge in tropical fruit wines made with mango, lychee, passionfruit, Davidson plum, and more local flavours. Keep the designated driver in mind!
Evening: Keep dinner simple with fresh fish and hot chips from Innisfail Seafood or eat up anything left in the fridge from the past 9 days of food stops. Head to Etty Bay for the evening and spot a cassowary or two roaming around as you enjoy your last night on the Cassowary Coast.

Day 10
Cairns

Morning: Enjoy one last slow breakfast in your motorhome before heading north. Stop at Babinda to visit the Babinda Bakery to grab some award-winning pies and head down the road to Babinda Boulders for a dip in the cool river.
Afternoon: Travel to Cairns for one last wander around town and visit the Cairns Botanic Gardens if the weather allows. Make sure you leave enough time to return your motorhome by 3:30PM at the Cruisin’ Cairns depot!
