DAY 1: BRISBANE
Let the music adventure commence! Once you have collected your motorhome from the Cruisin’ Brisbane branch, stock up on everything you need for your Gympie music getaway. Experience a relaxed afternoon wandering alongside Brisbane River, enjoy a picnic in the botanical gardens or sip a latte in the popular suburb of Southbank.
DAY 2: BRISBANE TO NOOSA
Time: 2 Hours
Brisbane to Noosa
It’s time to hit the road! Take your self-drive motorhome adventure up the scenic Sunshine Coast of Australia, stopping overnight at the popular coastal hub of Noosa. Become part of the hustle and bustle of Hastings Street, soak up the rays at the beach or visit Noosa National Park with fantastic coastal walks, surfing and unbeatable views from Hell’s Gate – keep your eye out for migrating whales at this time of year.
DAY 3: NOOSA TO GYMPIE
Time: 1 Hour
Noosa to Gympie
Rise early and watch the sun rise over Noosa before setting off towards Gympie in time for the family friendly muster. Stop in the town and replenish your necessities and explore the local attractions. History buffs will enjoy a visit to the Gympie Gold and Mining Museum in Alford Park housing memorabilia from the early gold mining era around Gympie. In the afternoon settle yourself at Amamoor Creek State Forest Park camp site in preparation for the big days to come.
DAY 4: GYMPIE MUSIC MUSTER (THURSDAY)
Start your morning bright and early and make your way towards Must-A-Dance, one of the 8 onsite venues, for line dancing with Gordon Elliot. Throughout the day you’ll be overwhelmed by the talent of artists including ARIA nominated Buddy Goode, Kaylee Bell, the 2013 Toyota Star Maker, and Luke O’Shea, Triple Golden Guitar winner.
DAY 5: GYMPIE MUSIC MUSTER (FRIDAY)
Day 2 of the muster continues with an eclectic mix of artists across all venues. At 8:00 am swing by the Muster Club to watch the Muster Poets and at 10:30 the main stage amphitheatre is the place to be with the Muster Talent Search Live Heats. Lay back in the Blues and Roots Bar with Harry Hookey, croon along with Jon English in the Crowbar and finish off the day back at the main stage with 3-time ARIA award-winner, Lee Kernaghan.
DAY 6: GYMPIE MUSIC MUSTER (SATURDAY)
Have some fun today with social line dancing but don’t miss the startling head acts including The McClymonts, Adam Harvey and Russell Morris. Take some time out from the festival and enjoy your scenic surrounds and a bite to eat. Dance into the early hours of Sunday morning with Kasey Chambers.
DAY 7: GYMPIE MUSIC MUSTER (SUNDAY)
Finish this four day festival extravaganza with a bang. Listen to the dulcet tones of Thelma Plum at The Grove, sway along with Pete Denahy in the Muster Club, drag some friends along to line dancing to show off your new skills and cram your way into the crowd at the main stage for some of the best acts yet to come including Sara Storer and John Williamson.
DAY 8: GYMPIE TO HERVEY BAY
Time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes
Pack away early to try and avoid the crowds. Hit the road again and navigate towards the clear waters of Hervey Bay just over an hour and a half’s drive from Gympie. Spend a relaxing day making the most of the caravan park facilities or exploring the marina and winding down from the previous festivities. This seaside city is Australia’s whale watching capital and you’ll be there in the peak of whale watching season! If you have the energy be sure to experience at least a half day tour. Hervey Bay is also a great launching pad for visiting World Heritage Listed Fraser Island.
Day 9: Hervey Bay to Bundaberg
Time: 4 Hours 30 Minutes
Enjoy a luxurious sleep in before navigating back up Australia’s well-worn coastal road to the town of Bundaberg. If you’re a fan of rum, this is the place for you. Pay a visit to Bundaberg Run Distillery, one of the country’s most famous Aussie spirits. Take a guided tour and feel and taste your way through the history of Bundaberg Rum. In the afternoon walk around the Botanic Gardens, feed the ducks at the lake or pay a visit to the Bert Hinkler Museum. Take a picnic with you or dine at the charming Café 1928.
DAY 10: BUNDABERG TO ROCKHAMPTON
Time: 3 Hours 30 Minutes
Arrive in Rockhampton at your leisure. This city has a number of activities to keep you entertained including the popular Rockhampton Botanic Gardens and Zoo, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the state and Capricorn Caves, offering a fantastic interactive cave experience. Visit nearby Mount Archer providing spectacular sweeping views or take a tour of the Mount Morgan Goldmine.
DAY 11: ROCKHAMPTON TO AIRLIE BEACH
Time: 5 Hours 23 Minutes
It’s time to visit the central hub of the Whitsunday Islands; Airlie Beach. Get comfortable in one of the caravan parks with dazzling resort-style facilities. Cool off in Airlie Beach Lagoon, walk around the iconic Abell Point Marina and grab a bite to eat and go shopping on Shute Harbour Road with its unique retail and chainstores and restaurants.
DAY 12: AIRLIE BEACH
Hop on board a day tour to explore the unbeatable beauty of the Whitsunday Islands. Sail through crystal green waters past a range of aqua-marine life, marvel at spectacular views from Hill Inlet and sift your feet through the unparalleled sands of White Haven Beach. If you’re keen, hire a snorkel and explore the reef or take a helicopter ride over the famous Heart Reef.
DAY 13: AIRLIE BEACH TO TOWNSVILLE
Time: 3 Hours 20 Minutes
Pull yourself away from them the tropical oasis of the Whitsundays and continue your great getaway to Townsville, approximately three and a half hours’ drive from Airlie Beach. Orientate yourself by taking a heritage walk around the city centre or soak up the vibrant atmosphere at The Strand and watch skydivers above. For spectacular views and exercise walk up Castle Hill in the afternoon and watch the multi-coloured Queensland sunset.
DAY 14: TOWNSVILLE TO CAIRNS
Time: 4 Hours 30 Minutes
Arrive in vibrant Cairns where there is no shortage of things to do and see. Enjoy unbeatable views and a fantastic experience on the Skyrail & Kuranda Scenic Railway, snorkel in the Listerine coloured waters surrounding the city or take a trip to the spectacular Paronella Park with its iconic Spanish Costillo. Enjoy the natural beauty of the park, swim in the cascading waterfalls, and explore the winding paths and bridges that snake through the forest and castle ruins.
DAY 15: CAIRNS
No visit to Cairns would be complete without a day trip to the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest; a tropical wonderland. Take a full day or half day rainforest tour exploring picturesque Cape Tribulation, Wujal Falls and Emmagen. Learn about aboriginal heritage, visit the James Cook Museum and Lion’s Den Hotel. Drink in the peaceful atmosphere and purchase some of the delightful natural products on offer around the area.
DAY 16: CAIRNS TO PORT DOUGLAS
Time: 1 Hour
Venture further to the heart of Far North Queensland to the coveted holiday destination of Port Douglas. Spend the day relaxing at Four Mile Beach with its scenic views, snorkel Agincourt Reef and explore the coral life, take a half day bike riding adventure on the Famous Bump Track and sample an array of top quality seafood at one of the prime waterfront restaurants.
DAY 17: PORT DOUGLAS TO UNDARA NATIONAL PARK
Turn your journey around and head inland to unique Undara National Park, capturing the essence of the real Aussie outback. Explore the tropical savannah woodlands and experience the awe-inspiring Undara Lava Tubes, the longest lava flow from a single volcanic crater on Earth. In the afternoon visit the local pub with its vibrant Australian vibe and enjoy a night beside the campfire with good ol’ caravan park hospitality.
DAY 18: UNDARA NATIONAL PARK TO CHARTERS TOWERS
Time: 4 Hours 40 Minutes
Continue through the vast Australian outback to the country Queensland town of Charters Towers. Appreciate the historical architecture in the town including the striking Stock Exchange Building with a great onsite café. Travel ten kilometres out of the city to Texas Longhorn Wagon Tours and Safaris or swing by Venus Battery offering an in-depth history of gold extraction.
DAY 19: CHARTERS TOWERS TO EMERALD
Time: 5 Hours
Continue the long country drive towards the charming outback town of Emerald. Once you arrive in the early to late afternoon wander around the Botanic Gardens for some peace and quiet and make the most of a great photo opportunity at the Van Gough Sunflower Painting near the tourist information centre standing at an impressive height of 25 metres.
DAY 20: EMERALD TO ROMA
Time: 4 Hours 30 Minutes
The next stop on your Gympie Music Muster Great Getaway is the thriving country town of Roma. Learn about the town’s oil and gas exploration history at The Big Rig; take a journey through time and don’t miss the spectacular night show. Stroll around the town centre and drink in the warm hospitality of the locals and unique architecture including the church and heritage listed courthouse. Pay your respects at Heroes Avenue, a memorial of 138 bottle trees dedicated to local soldiers who fell in World War 1.
DAY 21: ROMA TO TOOWOOMBA
Time: 4 Hours
Arrive at your last destination; Australia’s Garden City. Stroll around the town centre and appreciate art deco architecture at the Empire Theatre. Visit Cobb and Co museum with the largest collection of carriages in the world or relax at the Japanese Garden; a perfect place to wind down after your three week adventure.
DAY 22: TOOWOOMBA TO BRISBANE
Time: 1 Hour 40 Minutes
Head back to where your adventure started in subtropical Brisbane. Spend the morning in the CBD and enjoy a long lunch in the up and coming café precinct before returning your motorhome to the Cruisin’ Brisbane branch.
